EQUESTRIAFITNESS and PHYSICAL THERAPY with Kim Cavanagh, Physical Therapist

Kim Cavanagh is a Colorado licensed physical therapist with 34 years experience working with athletes and the general public treating orthopedic and sports- related injuries and accidents. Kim is also an equestrian who enjoys trail riding. Kim became interested in rider biomechanics when she was working at a therapeutic riding center providing hippo therapy treatments to physically challenged children and adults. This led Kim to seek out more knowledge about the biomechanics of the horse and the rider and how they influence each other.

Kim took some classes in Equine Training and Management offered at Front Range Community College where she learned about equine anatomy and biomechanics, hoof biomechanics, ground work to improve equine movement and pasture management. After learning more about how the horse moves, Kim then learned about a rider biomechanics program called Testt developed by a physiotherapist in England. Testt which stands for Thomas Equestrian Symmetry Types and Tests. Kim completed the Testt program and now incorporates this information into her rider assessments. Kim continues to learn and incorporate new information about rider biomechanics all the time.

Kim provides a comprehensive on and off horse physiotherapy assessment of your riding position and identifies your specific imbalances and asymmetries and then provides every rider with specific exercises to address their individual issues. This program is beneficial to any rider of any discipline and level. Kim has worked with riders who have multiple joint replacements, back surgeries, hip labrum surgeries, and those who are returning to riding after time off.

Exercise programs are tailored to the specific needs of each rider.
